Phyllis Jean Anderson, 79, Pembroke Pines, Fla., passed away Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010, in Hollywood, Fla.

She was born Aug. 25, 1931, in Clearfield, a daughter of the late Fred and Mildred (Miller) Lippart.

Mrs. Anderson was married to Donald E. Anderson, who preceded her in death July 1, 2005.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Valier United Methodist Church.

Margaret I. Pearce (Watson), 80, Mentor, Ohio, died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010, at Lake Med Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Painesville.

She was born Oct. 6, 1930, in Glen Campbell, a daughter of the late George and Ethel Watson.

Mrs. Pearce was married to Ray C. Pearce, who preceded her in death.

She was a factory worker at Mentor Plastics for many years.

Mrs. Pearce was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who especialy loved spending time with her family.

Eunice S. Miller, 97

Eunice S. Miller, 97, Mahaffey, passed away Friday, Dec. 10, 2010, at Mahoning Riverside Manor, Punxsutawney.

She was born Dec. 19, 1912, in Westover, a daughter of the late William L. and Martha (Rainey) Smith.

Mrs. Miller was married to Dr. D. Edgar Miller, who preceded her in death Dec. 21, 1990.

She assisted her husband who practiced dentistry in Mahaffey by scheduling appointments and assisted him in dental exams of students in the various school districts.

Margaret “Marge” (Bell) Marshall, 86

Margaret “Marge” (Bell) Marshall, 86, Mahaffey, formerly of Indiana County, passed away Friday, Dec. 10, 2010, at the Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

She was born Nov. 10, 1924, in Kerrmoor, a daughter of the late Leslie W. and Katherine (Dotts) Bell.

In 1947, she married Jack L. Marshall, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Marshall was an IUP Graduate of the nursing program and served during World War II as a Navy WAVE.

She owned and operated Marge’s Restaurant in Burnside for over 25 years.

Miriam Arlene Maloney, 87

Miriam Arlene Maloney, 87, Punxsutawney, passed away Friday, Dec. 10, 2010, at her home.

She was born Dec. 18, 1922, in Punxsutawney, a daughter of the late Harry and Rita (Andre) Hippchen.

Mrs. Maloney was married to John F. Maloney, who preceded her in death March 12, 1994.

She was co-owner of the Elk Run Sunoco and a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Punxsutawney.

Mrs. Maloney loved her grandchildren and traveling with her family.

Middle school takes steps toward eliminating bullying

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Bullying has been seen in real life, on television and in films. People may like to see the underdog rise against his or her instigators, but retaliation such as that seen in the violent killings at Columbine High School shows that bullying continues to be out of control — along with the retaliation.

In the last several years, there’s been a focus on attempting to put an end to bullying at Punxsutawney Area Middle School, which was visited by the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program, a program for explaining to students what’s behind bullying and how to end it.
