PUNXSUTAWNEY â The Route 310/119 intersection improvement project continued to be a big topic of discussion at Thursdayâs Route 119 Improvement Committee meeting.
Mark Rozich, PennDOT District 10 highway design engineer, said that the purchase of the brown house located at the intersection â a house that the committee was planning to purchase for demolition â has not been completed yet.
David G. Van Horn, 50, Templeton, died Monday, Nov. 29, 2010, at his home.
He was born Dec. 12, 1959, in Natrona Heights, a son of Blaine and Ruth (Waltz) Van Horn, who survive.
Mr. Van Horn was married to Denise Ross, who survives.
He was a veteran of the United States Army.
Mr. Van Horn belonged to the Local 66 Operating Engineers Union, where he was a certified crane operator.

PUNXSUTAWNEY â The 21st Century Learning Initiative continues to expand in the Punxsutawney Area School District, as technology broadens to the elementary grades.
âWe used to just have one computer lab in each of our elementary school buildings,â elementary Principal Travis Monroe said. âThere was just the stationary lab where a teacher had to work his or her classroom schedule around its availability. That really tied up a classroom.â
PUNXSUTAWNEY â The Punxsutawney Area School District was recently recognized by the state Department of Education (PDE) for its use of technology from the Classrooms For the Future (CFF) grant throughout the district.
PAHS Principal David London said this is the first full year of the âOne-to-Oneâ program at the high school, where every student in grades nine through 12 has his or her own laptop.
London said the district was recognized by the state education department as one of five districts in the state as a CFF success story.
BROOKVILLE â Wednesday, following the violent death of a Crawford County corrections officer, Jefferson County Warden Tom Elbel told the jail board that the jailâs policies are being reviewed.
According to Elbel, the death of corrections officer Gary M. Chapin, of Conneaut Lake, occurred as a new inmate, Gregory G. Brown, 24, of Meadville, was being processed.
Brown became violent while being processed, during which he was not placed in any restraining device, and killed Chapin.
When asked if Brown used any sort of weapon, Elbel responded simply, âThe wall.â

Merle P. Cary, 82, Hemlock Lake, passed away Monday, Nov. 29, 2010, at his home.
He was born March 20, 1928, in Rossiter, a son of the late Daniel and Alberta (Pearce) Cary.
He was married to Dolores M. (Hankinson) Cary, who preceded him in death March 16, 2007.
Mr. Cary was a graduate of Glen Campbell High School and served in the U.S. Air Force.
He was retired from the U.S. Pentagon where he worked in U.S. Army Communications.

BROCKWAY â Another dust-up between Jack Wisor, founder and director of the Just For Jesus Homeless Outreach Challenge, and state Sen. Joe Scarnati could be developing.
Scarnati said in a press release Tuesday that Wisor deliberately disobeyed a newly-enacted law, Act 95 of 2010, which states that a group home â such as Just For Jesus â that takes on a convicted murderer must notify the county and municipal governments within 48 hours of the murdererâs arrival.
