Teen diagnosed with cancer offered trip to Mayport farm through foundation

CLOE — Thanks to a group of caring people, a 14-year-old boy suffering from cancer was able to go on the hunt of a lifetime.

Mark Hildebrand, of the Tom Siple Foundation, said that D.J. Honneffer and his dad, Daniel, of Ellwood City, were treated to a deer hunt Nov. 20 at Byrd Yeany Farms in Mayport.

Byrd Yeany III suggested that his dad, Byrd Yeany Jr., offer a hunt to a deserving individual.

Seiler L. Reitz, 85

Seiler L. Reitz, 85, Punxsutawney, passed away Friday, Dec. 3, 2010 at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

He was born Dec. 13, 1924, in Knox Dale, a son of the late Carlton and Sarah Jane (Lewis) Reitz.

He was married to Marion V. (Spencer) Reitz of Punxsutawney, who survives.

Mr. Reitz attended the Albion United Methodist Church.

He worked for T.W. Phillips Gas Company for many years before retiring in 1987.

An avid sports enthusiast, he loved football, baseball and wrestling. He also enjoyed camping. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be greatly missed.

Rebecca (Montgomery) Meckley, 60

Rebecca (Montgomery) Meckley, 60, Cabot, went to be with the Lord Friday, Dec. 3, 2010, in the company of her family.

She was born Nov. 6, 1950, a daughter of the late John Calvin and Norma Jean Montgomery.

She lived most of her life in Cabot.

Mrs. Meckley was employed by H.P. Stars in Mars, and worked many years at Du-Co Ceramics in Saxonburg.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, and spending time at camp.

Harry F. Kunselman, 86

Harry F. Kunselman, 86, Reynoldsville, died Sunday, Dec. 5, 2010, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh.

He was born July 24, 1924, in Pinecreek Township, a son of the late George F. Kunselman and Lottye C. (Kroh) Kunselman.

Sept. 5, 1947, he married Ruth A. (Sprague) Kunselman, who preceded him in death Nov. 27, 2010.

He served in the U.S. Army in the 40th Tank Battalion, 7th Armored Division, under General George Patton.

Richard “Decent” Francis Havrilla, 58

Richard “Decent” Francis Havrilla, 58, Punxsutawney, died Sunday, Dec. 5, 2010, at DuBois Nursing Home.

He was born May 30, 1952, in Punxsutawney, a son of Eleanor “Ellie” Mary (Pawhutsky) Havrilla, who survives, and the late Richard Carl Havrilla.

Mr. Havrilla had a passion for life and a love for music. He played bass guitar in various local bands such as The Reason Why, The Worthy Generation, Tyme, Kaos and most recently G3. He liked to help other people, and had played guitar in charity benefits. He was deeply touched when friends organized a benefit on his behalf.

BIG RUN — The Big Run VFW Post No. 9044 and Ladies’ Auxiliary remembered the attack on Pearl Harbor Sunday at Big Run’s War Memorial building.

The attack called the Hawaii Operation — or Operation Z, by the Japanese Imperial General Headquarters, and the Battle of Pearl Harbor by some Americans — was a surprise military strike conducted by the Imperial Japanese Navy against the U.S. naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, on the morning of Dec. 7, 1941.

The next day, the United States declared war on Japan, resulting in its entry into the second World War.
