BROOKVILLE â The Punxsy boys' basketball team had the right game plan to counteract Brookville's height, but the Chucks' struggles from behind the three-point line led to a 50-42 loss to the Raiders Friday night on the road.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â The Punxsy ninth-grade girls' basketball team won its first game of the season Friday, downing the Clarion Lady Bobcats in Punxsutawney, 34-13.
The Lady Chucks jetted out to a 7-0 lead, only for Clarion to come back with a pair of buckets that set the score at 7-4 after one quarter. Everything changed after the first quarter, as the Lady Chucks finished the game on a 27-9 run.
Punxsy outscored the Lady Bobcats by a 15-3 margin during the second quarter, taking a 22-7 advantage into the break.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â After a weekâs worth of wishing, the âLight Up a Childâs Lifeâ campaign concluded with a $73,285 Friday finale.
The campaignâs contributions will be used by the Greater Pennsylvania and Southern West Virginia Make-A-Wish chapter to grant 21 wishes to area children facing life-threatening illnesses.
According to regional office assistant Kayla Danch, the final day of the annual week-long campaign, which wrapped up at the Pantall Hotel, was met with success due directly to the âgenerosity of the community.â
PUNXSUTAWNEY â There were no injuries reported when Punxsutawney Borough Police patrol car No. 26 was involved in a two-vehicle accident at approximately 3:45 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Chestnut Street and Sutton Street.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â Sure, the calendar for sale by the Punxsutawney Area Historical & Genealogical Society contains the calendar dates of 1949, but thatâs fine, because the dates for 1949 and 2011 match exactly.
Plus, the Society is releasing the calendar to coincide with the re-release of âPunxsutawney Centennial: 1849-1949.â
Phyllis Jean Anderson, 79, Pembroke Pines, Fla., died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010.
She was born Aug. 25, 1931, in Clearfield, a daughter of the late Fred and Mildred (Miller) Lippart.
Mrs. Anderson was married to Donald E. Anderson, who preceded her in death July 1, 2005.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Valier United Methodist Church.
Blake E. Knapp, 69, Brookville, died Thursday, Dec. 16, 2010, at Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh.
He was born Jan. 28, 1941, in Cooksburg, a son of the late Meade and Elva (Sharp) Knapp.
Mr. Knapp was engaged to be married to Boots Ovenshire.
He worked as a heavy equipment operator for 33 years at PennDOT and was a member of the Brookville Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Knapp was a retiree from Union Treasury of Indiana/PennDOT, the treasurer of the Heath Township Sportsman Club and a member of the F.O.E. No. 983 in Brookville.
Kenneth M. Weaver, 71, Home, passed away Thursday, Dec. 16, 2010, at the Armstrong County Hospital.
He was born in 1939, in Smicksburg, a son of the late Milo Weaver and Maxine (Cornman) Weaver, who survives.
Mr. Weaver was a veteran of the Cuban Missile Crisis, having served in the U.S. Army.
He received a BS degree from IUP, a masterâs degree from Duquense University, and he was also a graduate of Oklahoma Farriers College.
Sara L. Wells, 89, Punxsutawney, died Thursday, Dec. 16, 2010, at McKinley Heath Center, Brookville.
She was born April 21, 1921, in Punxsutawney, a daughter of the late Joseph and Alberta (Cochran) Hawley.
Oct. 28, 1938, she married Ambrose C. Wells, who preceded her in death Aug. 28, 1989.
Mrs. Wells was a member of the First Church of God and the Women of the Church of God.
She was a librarian at the church for a number of years.
