Report reveals authority’s positive impact

BROOKVILLE — The Jefferson County Solid Waste Authority Wednesday released a report that documented the authority's positive effect on the environment.

According to the report, which was issued by the North East Recycling Council, the authority's recycling programs collected 17,086.2 tons of waste, such as paper, glass, metals, plastics, wood and computers that were used during production of new items.

Seniors win Powderpuff football game again, 34-8

PUNXSUTAWNEY — The Stompin' Seniors ignored an 8-0 deficit within the first four minutes of the game and scored 34-straight points during a 34-8 victory over the Jersey Juniors during PAHS' annual Powderpuff football game Thursday night at Jack LaMarca Memorial Stadium.

Five different seniors were able to score a touchdown, as after cutting the Juniors' lead to 8-6 entering the second quarter, the Seniors managed 14 points during each of the second and third quarters.

Christopher S. Limrick, 40

Christopher S. Limrick, 40, Punxsutawney, died at his residence in Gaskill Township.

He was born Dec. 16, 1969, in Punxsutawney, a son of Robert D. Limrick of Altoona and the late Judith A. (Firment) Limrick, who preceded him in death in 1998.

Mr. Limrick was a 1988 graduate of Punxsutawney Area High School and earned an associate’s degree in drafting design from Triangle Tech.

He was the former proprietor of The Right Sound in Punxsutawney.

W. Wayne Irwin, 84

November 18, 2010

W. Wayne Irwin, 84, Punxsutawney, departed this earth, Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2010, to be with his dearly departed wife, Betty Lou (Alabran) Irwin.

He was born June 9, 1926, in Rossmoyne, a son of the late Joseph W. and Zoe (Hawk) Irwin.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II assigned to Company C 17th Armored Infantry Battalion “Hellcats” serving in the European Theater as a rifleman.

Before retiring, Mr. Irwin worked as a coal driller for Northern Cambria Fuel for more than 30 years.

Ralph Hughey, 75

Ralph Hughey, 75, Marion Center, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2010, at UPMC Presbyterian, Pittsburgh.

He was born July 7, 1935, in Eldred Township, a son of the late Carmen “Jack” Hughey and Mary (Reed) Orcutt.

He was married to Rita (Uplinger) Hughey, who survives, of Marion Center.

Mr. Hughey was a former East Mahoning Township roadmaster for many years. He was a dozer operator in earlier years and worked at the Marion Center Speedway for more than 30 years. He enjoyed working in his vegetable garden and being outdoors, and was a pashionate animal lover, especially cats.

Orange Patrol helps place new signs at pivotal county entryways

PUNXSUTAWNEY — As tourism continues to grow throughout Jefferson County, several entities have gathered to place new “Welcome To Jefferson County” signs at key entry points to increase the county’s visibility.

Marlene Lellock, executive director of the Punxsutawney Area Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Jefferson County Hotel Tax Committee, said the committee and several other organizations paid for the new signs.
