Punxsy's passing game, turnover-creating defense lead to win over Raiders

October 30, 2010

PUNXSUTAWNEY — If you can't stop the pass and turn the ball over three times in the second half, you won't win many games.

The Raiders found that out the hard way Friday night, as Punxsutawney turned a 9-6 halftime lead into a 37-6 drubbing of Brookville to not only win the Route 36 Gridiron Cup, but also claim the first-ever KSAC Large School Division championship.

Thompson, Smith gather for preview of new flags

October 30, 2010

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Friday at Gobbler’s Knob, U.S. Rep. Glenn Thompson and state Rep. Sam Smith previewed new national and state flags to be presented at a dedication to local veterans Nov. 7.

“I certainly wanted to support the local organizations as they prepare to do an outreach program for our veterans,” Smith said. “Any time we can support those efforts and recognize people who have served our country, it’s a worthwhile cause.”

Jack-o’-lanterns are the face of Halloween, and that face is very conspicuous in the Timblin area where a local farming family lines hundreds of them along the road. David and Mary Dunkle grow several acres of pumpkins each year, and the unsold pumpkins are carved by area residents. (Photo submitted)
